Recent evaluations across Europe reveal a concerning pattern of hybrid threats originating from Russia, with several nations experiencing significantly higher pressure than Germany. A comprehensive media investigation highlights how geography and geopolitical alignment shape the frequency and nature of these hostile activities.
The joint journalistic undertaking by the Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and 16 partner stations provides a detailed look at hostile actions directed against European infrastructure and security.
Schwerpunkte der europäischen Untersuchung
During the documented timeframe, researchers cataloged at least 54 hybrid attacks throughout Europe. A substantial portion of these events targeted countries sharing direct borders with Russia and Belarus, underscoring a regional concentration of hostile maneuvers.
The cataloged incidents span multiple categories, including acts of sabotage, airspace violations, espionage operations, provocative military exercises, direct attacks on individuals, and illegal border crossings designed to cause friction and uncertainty.
Hotspots in Europa: Polen und das Baltikum im Visier
Direct neighbors of the Russian sphere of influence face the heaviest burden. According to the collaborative data evaluation, Poland and Latvia, alongside the Black Sea region, are currently particularly affected by these hybrid attacks, with a sharp escalation noted toward the end of the observation window in specific areas.
Die Situation in Deutschland
By comparison, Germany registered four recorded hybrid incidents during the same timeframe, placing it less in the immediate focus compared to direct neighbor states. The specific occurrences documented in Germany include:
- The discovery of an explosive drone at the Leipzig airport
- The discovery of drone components and explosives near a military base
Offizielle Warnungen vor Destabilisierungsversuchen
Security officials view the broad spectrum of coordinated actions as part of a deliberate campaign. Mikael Frisell, Director General of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, emphasized the severity of the threat landscape in statements to SVT reporters.
"The situation is very serious," Frisell noted, explaining that Moscow's overarching strategy aims to destabilize Western societies and undermine ongoing international support for Ukraine. He stressed that European nations must respond with proactive measures and prepare for worst-case scenarios.
