Democratic US Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed has asked Democratic US Representative Haley Stevens to stay away from his campaign events in Michigan as the fiercely contested race enters its final stretch.
Following a campaign rally, El-Sayed addressed reporters regarding the decision, citing a desire to keep the focus on his platform rather than internal party friction. "I don't want any distractions," El-Sayed stated, adding that "other folks are more interested in making this race about things that it's not about."
The public disagreement between El-Sayed and his former primary rival highlights ongoing Democratic tensions in a tightly contested Michigan Senate contest. Despite the friction, El-Sayed has maintained that the rift is irrelevant to voters and has denounced a controversial outside political ad that fueled the tensions.
