Artificial intelligence-driven malware is rated as "highly likely" to be deployed against critical facilities in the UK, including power stations, airports, and hospitals, by 2028. The assessment comes directly from the UK's state cybersecurity authority.
According to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), advancements in AI will likely facilitate targeted ransomware operations against critical national infrastructure (CNI) over the next few years. The UK defines its CNI to encompass essential services and facilities across critical sectors such as energy, transport, health, defence, finance, and food.
