Apple's Foldable iPhone Duo Draws Early Complaints of Screen Cracking
Apple's latest flagship device, the iPhone Duo, has faced an early setback with several customers reporting that the foldable display cracked after just hours or days of use. The issue, which has been reported on social media and independently verified by Bloomberg News, involves a crunching sound and a large crack forming along the center crease of the screen.
According to customers, the problem occurs when the phone is unfolded, with some users hearing a crunching sound and others experiencing a white patch or display malfunction on the right side of the screen. The issue has been reported by more than a dozen customers, with some providing photos of the damage to their devices or evidence of their support conversations with Apple.
Apple has acknowledged the issue, stating that it is "aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units." The company has not provided any information on the cause of the problem or the number of affected units.
The iPhone Duo, which went on sale on October 23, represents Apple's first foray into foldable phones and the biggest design change to the iPhone in years. The device has a smaller screen on its outer surface and can be opened to reveal a larger display.
While the problem appears to affect only a subset of units, it represents an embarrassing setback for Apple, which had touted the iPhone Duo's superior durability, hinge design, and display technology. The company has faced issues with new iPhone hardware in the past, including the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014 and the iPhone 4 in 2010.
