Blindfolded wife 'felt stranger's hand' during sex with husband, court told
A woman who was blindfolded and restrained during a sex session with her husband discovered that a stranger was in the room with them, a court has heard.
Joanne Young, 49, was having sex with her husband Philip, 50, in February 2023 when she felt a stranger's hand on her wrist. She had been drinking with friends earlier that evening and had gone to bed with her husband, who had blindfolded and restrained her.
"I had been having sex and I felt someone else's hand on my wrist – and it wasn’t his hand because he was at the end of the bed on me – and the hand was over there," Mrs Young told police in an interview. "It was not the same person. The hand was there because I remember for some reason I was trying to take the wristband or the blindfold off."
Mrs Young said she was shocked and didn't know what to do, so she ran to the bathroom and locked herself in. She later came out and didn't hear any noise in the bedroom, but didn't know what to do.
Her husband, Philip Young, has pleaded guilty to 56 charges relating to the abuse of his wife, including recruiting four men to assault her while she was drugged, blindfolded, and handcuffed. The four men, Norman Macksoni, Richard Wilkins, Connor Sanderson-Doyle, and Mohammed Hassan, are on trial.
Mrs Young told police that she had been with her husband for 22 years and had a "normal" and "monogamous" sex life, but had never discussed consent while asleep. She said that on occasions, she would wake up to find a blindfold and wrist restraints on her, but assumed it was just a result of her drinking and falling asleep.
The court has heard that Philip Young had advertised his wife on the internet and had shared images of her without her consent.
