Mississippi Senate Race Remains Unresolved as Colom Extends Lead

The U.S. Senate race in Mississippi remains too close to call as Democrat Scott Colom maintains a narrow, widening lead over Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith. With thousands of ballots still awaiting processing, both campaigns are closely monitoring the final stages of the count.

Ongoing Ballot Processing

Election officials are currently working through a significant backlog of absentee and affidavit ballots. According to the Colom campaign, approximately 15,000 affidavit ballots remain to be processed. While the exact timeline for completion is uncertain, the results must undergo a formal certification process before a winner is officially declared.

Colom expressed confidence in his trajectory, telling supporters that the math points toward his victory. He emphasized that his team is deploying legal observers to county meetings to ensure the integrity of the remaining count. "We will protect the process of this election," Colom stated, urging his opponent to accept the shifting results.

Conversely, the Hyde-Smith campaign maintains that the incumbent will ultimately prevail. Campaign manager Jake Monseen noted that the race remains extremely tight and expressed confidence that once all legally cast votes are accounted for, Mississippi voters will have reelected the Republican senator.
