Tesla and SpaceX are exploring a potential merger that could form a corporate giant with a combined market capitalization of approximately $3.5 trillion, according to Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk.

Exploring a Mega-Merger

During a SpaceX earnings call on Tuesday, Musk revealed that special committees have been established within both companies to evaluate the prospective tie-up. He noted that the concept carries significant merit due to shared advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy infrastructure between the two firms.

However, Musk cautioned that no formal proposals or agreements have been finalized by the committees. If a deal is eventually formulated, it would require approval from at least 50 percent of Tesla shareholders in a public vote.

Financial markets reacted positively to the announcement. In after-hours trading following the statements, SpaceX shares rose by more than 8 percent, while Tesla shares gained 1.8 percent.

Strong Financials and Strategic Logic

Industry experts point out that the underlying manufacturing expertise and technology transfer between Tesla and SpaceX provide logical synergy for a union, though final success would depend heavily on shareholder support and future collaborative innovation.
