Lil’ Jem’s Early Learning Children Centre in Yarmouth County has marked its 20th anniversary of providing childcare and early education to local families. Located on Lakeside Road in Milton Highlands, the facility has grown into a cornerstone for young children in the community since opening its doors in 2006.
Founded by Jodi MacKinnon-LeBlanc, who serves as owner and executive director, the centre focuses on play-based learning designed to support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. Over the past two decades, leadership has adapted the facility's programs to match community needs, shifting away from school-age care to concentrate on toddler rooms and a preschool area. Centre director Cora Smith notes that every classroom area is purposeful, offering structured environments for sensory activities, social play, and foundational math skills.
Operating under a family-first philosophy for both clients and employees, the centre maintains supportive staffing practices and a natural, inclusive learning environment. The milestone is further underscored by former attendees returning as staff members, highlighting a lasting multi-generational impact in the Yarmouth County community.
