A recent Marketplace investigation across Ontario has used hidden cameras to document persistent accessibility barriers for diners with disabilities at both fast-food and full-service restaurants.

The undercover testing revealed multiple hurdles for patrons requiring accommodation. Among the issues recorded by the investigation were malfunctioning power door operators, self-service kiosks that were physically inaccessible, and establishments unable to provide a braille menu.

The findings shed light on the everyday challenges customers face when attempting to navigate dining spaces that fall short of inclusive standards. The investigation underscores ongoing difficulties in the hospitality sector regarding physical and informational accessibility for people with disabilities.
