Hong Kong Activist Joshua Wong Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

Prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy figure Joshua Wong has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars following a conviction under the city's national security law. Wong, 30, entered a guilty plea in September to charges of "foreign collusion."

The case marks the second national security conviction for Wong, who has already been imprisoned since 2020. According to the allegations, he worked alongside exiled activist Nathan Law to press foreign governments for sanctions, blockades, and other hostile actions directed against China.

Wong first gained international recognition as a teenager leading Hong Kong's 2014 pro-democracy protests. Critics argue that the sweeping national security legislation under which he was prosecuted continues to be utilized to suppress political dissent and opposition within the territory.
