Hundreds Evacuated From Oleshky Following Ceasefire Brokered by Melania Trump

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from the devastated, Russia-occupied city of Oleshky under a localized humanitarian ceasefire. Russian and Ukrainian authorities confirmed the successful departures, noting that the operation proceeded without incident.

The temporary truce was brokered by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, who stated that safe passageways and all convoy elements were established through a mutual agreement between Russian and Ukrainian leaders. According to Russia's human rights ombudsman, Yana Lantratova, both sides commended the high level of organization during the evacuation.

Evacuees were transported toward southern Russia, with plans to travel onward to Ukraine via Belarus. While the ceasefire offered rare relief to a city where residents had previously resorted to eating weeds to survive, the localized truce also drew scrutiny over its broader political implications ahead of upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
