PARIS — Widespread demonstrations mobilized hundreds of thousands of people across France and multiple European nations, prompting massive security deployments, transit shutdowns, and over a thousand arrests by French authorities.

The demonstrations follow intense unrest from the previous weekend involving riots and widespread looting. In response to the renewed protests, French officials deployed 70,000 security officers nationwide. Authorities in Paris implemented strict containment measures, closing numerous metro stations and enforcing protest bans, curfews, and movement restrictions in major cities including Marseille and Lyon. Paris police also conducted preemptive crackdowns, seizing weapons and gas masks.

France's interior ministry confirmed that 1,000 people were arrested as citizens flooded the streets. Protesters expressed deep frustration with traditional politics and marched to defend civic freedoms, with one Paris participant stating they were demonstrating for the fundamental right to protest and to support schoolchildren demanding better conditions.

The unrest extended beyond French borders. Across Europe, demonstrations and police actions unfolded on the same day, including home raids by law enforcement officers in Milan, Italy, alongside coordinated protests in Spain and Albania.
