NEW DELHI — Indian security forces deployed heavily across Delhi on Sunday ahead of a major opposition protest rally led by Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi.
Authorities positioned personnel equipped with batons and shields alongside riot control vehicles to secure the protest site. Police also issued warnings regarding significant traffic diversions across the capital as preparations for the march got underway.
The demonstration aims to demand the resignation of India's chief election officer following a contentious revision of voter lists. Opposition organizers stated they expect hundreds of thousands of citizens to join the march, marking a substantial challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
