Following the Student List’s decisive victory in Serbia’s parliamentary elections, supporters gathered in Belgrade’s Pioneers Park on Monday to dismantle a controversial encampment that had occupied the space for over a year.
The site, colloquially known as "Ćaciland," had served as a base for pro-government figures, including convicted criminals, who frequently intimidated journalists and political opponents. For the past 18 months, the park—located directly across from the national assembly building—remained a no-go zone while local police reportedly failed to intervene in the group's activities.
Volunteers arrived with bin bags the morning after the election results were announced, clearing debris and white tents from the area. Participants described the cleanup as a symbolic reclamation of public space, with one volunteer characterizing the removal of the camp as "the smell of freedom."
The cleanup marks a significant shift in the city’s political atmosphere as the Student List prepares to transition into power following their successful parliamentary campaign.
