Investigation Underway After Mass Shooting in Krakow Leaves Six Dead

Polish authorities are continuing their investigation following a mass shooting in Krakow that left six people dead, including a British citizen. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when a gunman drove a vehicle into the city's historic Main Market Square and began firing indiscriminately at people from his car.

The head of Poland's police force, Marek Boroń, confirmed that 16 other individuals were injured in the attack, including two police officers, five foreign nationals, and the suspect. Armed officers engaged the gunman and shot him within three minutes of the attack starting; the 25-year-old Polish suspect was detained and is currently hospitalized.

In the hours following the shooting, counter-terrorism police searched the suspect's residence and discovered the bodies of three people. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated there are strong indications that the deceased are close family members of the suspect—specifically his father, mother, and sister—who sustained injuries initially assessed as gunshot wounds.
