PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned racism and labeled a recent drive-by shooting near Paris a “racist terrorist attack.” The incident occurred on Friday in the Paris suburbs of Trappes and La Verrière, located in the Yvelines district west of the capital.
According to authorities, an unidentified 39-year-old male suspect opened fire from a car, targeting locations including a children’s playground, a fuel station, and a medical center during a rampage that lasted less than 15 minutes. The attack resulted in one death and left five other people injured, including a 12-year-old girl who was shot multiple times and sustained life-threatening injuries.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that three of the victims suffered critical injuries. Security forces quickly mobilized, and a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the violence. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office is monitoring the situation and investigating the motive behind the assault.
