At least seven people were killed and 34 others were wounded after two masked gunmen opened fire at a church in central Jordan. The attack occurred on Friday during a funeral service in the village of Hmoud, located within the Karak governorate.
According to officials and witnesses, between 150 and 200 mourners were inside the church when the unidentified attackers arrived in a car, entered the building, opened fire, and then fled the scene. Government spokesperson Dr. al-Momani Mohammad condemned the incident as a "heinous attack," while Jordan's King Abdullah II stated that authorities would confront the terrorist act with the harshest penalties.
While Jordan has a sizeable Christian community within its majority-Muslim population, such deadly violence remains rare in the country. Regional leaders, including Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun, also condemned the shooting for violating the sanctity of a funeral and contradicting humanitarian and religious values.
