Pharmaceutical company Merck has secured a priority review from U.S. health regulators following clinical trial results demonstrating that its flagship therapy extends survival in patients with a specific type of endometrial cancer.

Data from the global Phase 3 clinical trial, designated KEYNOTE-C93, evaluated pembrolizumab as a first-line monotherapy for patients with mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) endometrial cancer. According to the findings, the chemotherapy-free treatment regimen significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) and prevented the return of the disease compared to standard approaches.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted priority review status to the application, a designation that accelerates the review timeline for medicines that offer substantial improvements in the safety or effectiveness of diagnosing, treating, or preventing serious conditions.
