The grieving mother of a 15-year-old Ghanaian student shot and killed while walking to school in New York City has arrived in the U.S. to demand swift accountability as the manhunt for the suspects continues.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi traveled from Ghana to New York City on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, arriving six days after her son, Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, was fatally shot. Javits, a Grade 10 student at DreamYard Preparatory School who had moved from Ghana about a year earlier to live with his father, was killed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, near Crotona Park in the Bronx.
Investigation and Potential Motives
According to the New York Police Department, three masked and hooded suspects ambushed the teenager shortly before 9:30 a.m. as he walked to class. Investigators stated that Javits attempted to flee before the attackers pursued and shot him, later returning to collect their spent shell casings before escaping through a subway station. Police have not yet made any arrests.
The NYPD is actively investigating multiple potential motives, including robbery, mistaken identity tied to a rival gang, and school bullying. While investigators have found no evidence linking Javits to gang activity, his father believes the fatal attack is connected to a prior school fight that resulted in the suspension of two other students days earlier. Detectives continue to review school records and pursue active leads to identify and locate the suspects.
