Mother's heroic sacrifice in Bahamas

A British woman has died after trying to rescue her two sons who were swept away while snorkelling in the Bahamas. Leanne Gregory, from Nottinghamshire, was swept away by a strong current on the island of Bimini on Tuesday. Her husband, Nathan, has paid tribute to her as a "hero in life and in death".

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers launched an investigation into the incident after receiving reports of a woman being found unresponsive at the North Bimini Ferry Dock. Despite attempts to revive her, Leanne was pronounced dead at a local medical clinic. An autopsy will be conducted, but foul play is not suspected.

Nathan Gregory has set up a fundraising page to support his sons and has spoken publicly about his wife's heroic actions. He described how Leanne held onto their son until he was rescued, but didn't have the energy to save herself. The two children were rescued safely off the coast of Bimini, and Nathan has expressed gratitude for the fact that they are safe.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that they are in contact with the local authorities and are providing support to Leanne's family.

Nathan Gregory said: "She was the purest, most amazing wife, mother and friend to have ever walked this Earth. I will never be the same without her."
