Residents across Ukraine and Russia experienced sudden panic after cyber-attacks compromised official emergency alert applications in both countries, triggering alarming and entirely false warnings regarding nuclear radiation, chemical threats, and street fighting.
Hours later, Russian authorities reported a similar "massive cyber-attack" affecting their own emergency services app. The Russian emergencies ministry stated that citizens received fraudulent emails and alerts containing fake information regarding nuclear strikes, which reports linked to a Ukrainian espionage group.
While both nations confirmed that their emergency platforms had been manipulated by hackers, officials have not yet determined whether the two cyber-incidents were directly connected.
