Paris Imposes Overnight Curfew Following Severe Nationwide Unrest

Paris police have established an overnight curfew in two specific areas of the French capital to prevent further violence and looting. The emergency measure follows a weekend of intense nationwide rioting that targeted public buildings, city halls, and thousands of businesses across France.

The unrest stems from nationwide protests against rising living costs and conditions in schools. The weekend violence resulted in at least 2,400 arrests and left an estimated 3,000 businesses damaged or looted in cities including Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez offered his resignation on Sunday, which President Emmanuel Macron refused in order to maintain ongoing law enforcement command while calling for tactical adjustments and full transparency regarding intelligence failures.
