Judicial police in Guinea-Bissau raided the offices of controversial vaccine researchers praised by US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr. During the operation, authorities seized dozens of hepatitis B vaccines from individuals at the center of an ongoing dispute regarding newborn health studies in Africa.
The targeted research team has been central to a scientific controversy involving studies conducted on African newborns. This research has drawn $1.6 million in financial backing from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), alongside matched funding from the Pershing Square Foundation and the Bluebell Foundation, bringing total support to $3.2 million.
Officials disclosed details of the raid and the seizure of the vaccine doses via social media as the dispute surrounding the African newborn studies continues.
