Youth-led protests spread across Europe, thousands rally in Italy

Thousands of young people took to the streets in Italy over the weekend, with some protesters storming the iconic Colosseum in Rome. The demonstrations were part of a wave of youth-led protests sweeping across Europe, demanding action on housing, the cost of living, and education.

Protesters marched through cities including Milan, Rome, and Turin on Saturday, with police reporting the arrest of nine people and the brief detention of 371 others, including 110 minors. The detentions were made in eight cities as clashes broke out at some of the protests.

The protests are part of a broader movement that has seen demonstrations erupt in countries including Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Albania. Smaller demonstrations have also been held in Greece, Austria, Ireland, and Germany over the past few weeks.

In France, nationwide protests drew hundreds of thousands of people, challenging President Emmanuel Macron's government. In Serbia, student-led protests against perceived corruption and authoritarianism led to the ousting of President Aleksandar Vučić in parliamentary elections on Sunday.
