Regional authorities reported that 27 people were initially listed as missing following the strike. Emergency crews continued search and rescue operations through the debris into Monday. The village, located in the Kherson region near the front line, has been regularly targeted by Russian aviation using heavy glide bombs, which allow aircraft to strike from a distance without entering Ukrainian air defence range.
The strike on a designated aid point underscores the ongoing danger to civilians in front-line communities attempting to access basic necessities. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called for enhanced air defence systems to counter the glide bomb threat, which has intensified across southern and eastern Ukraine in recent months.
