Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar Advance in T20 World Cup 2028 Sub-Regional Qualifiers

Six teams from Asia have begun their qualification journey toward the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 via Sub-Regional Qualifiers held in Malaysia. These concurrent events represent the initial phase of the qualification pathway in Asia.

Kuwait secured their progression despite a stumble against Bahrain, bouncing back with a nine-wicket victory over Myanmar and an eight-wicket win against Bhutan. These dominant performances allowed Mohammed Aslam’s squad to observe the final day of action from a bye, having already secured sufficient points to advance.

At the top of the standings, Kuwait and Bahrain finished with 10 points each, closely followed by Qatar with nine points. Thailand secured fourth place in the standings following a victory over Bhutan.

Host nation Malaysia experienced a challenging start to their campaign, suffering a narrow seven-run defeat via the DLS method against Hong Kong and an initial loss to Saudi Arabia. However, the hosts recovered by defeating the Maldives, followed by a vital 37-run triumph over Singapore. Additional action during the tournament saw the Maldives claim a 10-wicket victory over China.
