Storm Boelo Brings Widespread Disruption Across the UK
Storm Boelo is causing chaos across the UK, with tens of thousands of people left without power, travel disrupted, and flooding reported in several areas.
The storm has brought strong winds and heavy rain, with gusts of up to 85mph recorded overnight. The Energy Networks Association reports that 82,600 customers are without power in Great Britain, with 344,900 customers reconnected following Storm Austen, which hit on Friday.
The storm has also caused significant travel disruption, with multiple ferry services cancelled and flights grounded. The Met Office has issued amber warnings for wind across large parts of Scotland, northern England, and parts of Northern Ireland, with a further yellow warning in place until 21:00 GMT for most of Scotland and northern England.
On the railways, people are being advised not to travel north of Preston on the West Coast Main Line, while on the East Coast, LNER advises against travel north of Edinburgh. Several roads have been closed due to damage, fallen trees, and flooding, with the A82 blocked at Dumbuck Quarry in Dumbarton.
The storm has also brought snow to some of Scotland's highest mountains, with the Cairngorms experiencing significant snowfall. The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team has warned that winter has "well and truly" arrived in the area.
As the storm continues to cause disruption, residents are being advised to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. The Met Office has warned that strong winds could cause power cuts, flying debris, damage to buildings and trees, as well as travel disruption.
