Tram services across Greater Manchester's Metrolink network are scheduled to return to normal on Monday following a two-week period of major disruption. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) confirmed that scheduled improvement works at Deansgate-Castlefield, Trafford Bar, and within Manchester city centre have finished on time, restoring operations across three affected Metrolink lines.
The engineering project formed part of an ongoing multi-million-pound investment to upgrade 3.7 miles of track between Trafford Bar, Cornbrook, and Deansgate-Castlefield. During the closure, passengers relied on replacement bus and train services. While regular routes are largely returning, officials noted that minor city-centre route adjustments will remain in place until Wednesday, with travellers advised to check the TfGM website for updates.
Greater Manchester's transport commissioner, Vernon Everitt, apologized for the inconvenience caused by the closures but stated that the completed upgrades will allow trams to operate more quickly and reliably. He added that the project marks the final major closure of its kind for the foreseeable future, noting that the newly replaced track infrastructure is designed to last for another thirty years.
