Devon and Cornwall Police Pay Out to Nine Women Over Abuse Claims Involving Male Officers

Force issues formal apology without admitting liability after allegations involving rape, assault, and coercive control

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a formal apology and paid compensation to nine women who brought legal claims against the force. The claimants alleged that male officers within the department were protected and even promoted despite senior leadership knowing they faced serious accusations of violence and abuse.

The legal action detailed a range of severe offenses allegedly committed by male officers against women with whom they were in relationships. According to the claims, the abuse included rape, physical assault, threats, harassment, and coercive control.

The settlement was reached without the police force admitting liability. Alongside the financial payouts, the resolution included a formal apology from the force to the nine women involved.
