US special envoy Steve Witkoff has traveled to Russia for high-level talks with President Vladimir Putin regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, following initial discussions held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Witkoff arrived in St. Petersburg to share insights gathered from the constructive meetings in Norway. According to Russian state media reports, Putin expressed an interest in restoring economic ties and cooperation with the United States while referencing the necessity to end the hostilities and halt human casualties.

The diplomatic push coincides with intense international scrutiny over potential negotiated terms, as Western partners navigate the complex framework required to address territorial considerations and secure a lasting resolution to the war.
