Supermarket refrigeration systems across multiple European countries have been hit by suspected cyberattacks, leaving authorities searching for culprits and motives behind the unusual disruptions.
The European Union strongly condemned the activity, characterizing it as a deliberate effort to disrupt the regional food supply chain and erode consumer trust. Cybersecurity firm Forescout noted that internet-exposed refrigeration systems are particularly prevalent in countries such as France, Italy, Greece, and Belgium. Meanwhile, international bodies and national cybersecurity authorities—including the UK's NCSC—are collaborating with industry partners to investigate the technical details and secure vulnerable infrastructure.
