Hypersonic Music Festival Cancelled Weeks Out
Organisers of the Hypersonic music festival have confirmed that the event will not go ahead in 2026, just weeks before it was scheduled to take place. The festival, which was set to be held at Melbourne Showground on November 20 and Sydney's Royal Randwick Racecourse on November 21, has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
According to a statement on the festival's website, the change in scheduling for the Melbourne event, which was moved to a Friday this year, has caused a range of problems that have made it impossible to deliver the festival as planned. The statement reads: "We are devastated to confirm that hypersonic Sydney and Melbourne will not be going ahead in 2026."
The cancellation is the latest in a string of setbacks for Australia's music festival scene, which has seen events such as Bluesfest, Groovin' The Moo, and Splendour in the Grass cancelled in recent years. Despite this, electronic music events and dance festivals have traditionally been well-attended, with an estimated 30,000 people attending the first Hypersonic festival in Sydney last year.
