A 14-year-old student from Basic High School remains in critical condition following a severe collision in Henderson on Wednesday afternoon. The teenager was riding an e-scooter through a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Racetrack Road and Blue Lantern when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, where witnesses reported that paramedics performed CPR on the girl before transporting her to a local hospital. While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, Henderson police have stated that neither speed nor impairment appear to be contributing factors in the accident.
Community Response and Safety Concerns
The incident has drawn attention to traffic safety in the area, with local residents expressing concern over vehicle speeds on Racetrack Road. Colin Gorman, a neighbor who lives nearby, described the event as deeply unsettling for the community.
"It's definitely a street where people are driving too fast," Gorman said, noting that the collision occurred within a clearly marked crosswalk. Despite the severity of the crash, Gorman expressed relief that the student was wearing a helmet at the time of the impact, emphasizing that the community is holding onto hope for her recovery.
Family and Ongoing Support
The victim’s mother confirmed that her daughter is currently hospitalized in critical condition. In the wake of the tragedy, community members have established a small tribute near the site of the crash, leaving candles and notes to show their support for the family.
As the family remains at the hospital, they have asked for prayers during this difficult time. Local authorities continue to process the scene and review evidence to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
