A mass student movement in Serbia that has spent two years organizing protests is now attempting to take power through the ballot box. On Sunday, the group known as Student List will field its own candidates in parliamentary elections, presenting the most significant challenge yet to President Aleksandar Vučić's 12-year rule.
The movement's campaign has relied on unorthodox grassroots organizing. Ahead of the vote, student volunteers have been canvassing housing estates—such as Krnjača in the suburbs of Belgrade—equipped with lanyards bearing the word "victory," structured survey questions, and a mobile application designed to track visited homes and voter support levels.
Sunday's election marks a crucial turning point for the student movement, transitioning from street demonstrations to a direct democratic challenge against the ruling party's authoritarian governance.
