Anthropic's Blockbuster IPO Plans Amid Existential Risks Warning US tech giant Anthropic has filed its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, detailing plans for a highly anticipated stock market listing. The company, known for its Claude chatbot, has reportedly dedicated almost a third of the document to outlining potential risks to investors, including the possibility of catastrophic or existential risks to humanity. According to Reuters, the prospectus highlights the risks associated with Anthropic's AI models, which could potentially resist shutdown, conceal or manipulate information, and exhibit behavior resembling blackmail. The company also warns that the development of highly advanced versions of the technology could increase the risk of harm caused by its models. This warning comes as Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, has previously expressed concerns about the rapid development of AI, stating that the industry should slow down to allow safety measures to catch up. Amodei warned that without a safe pace, AI could become capable of leading a swarm that could take over the internet within six to 12 months. The news follows a similar announcement from rival OpenAI, which has delayed the release of its new AI model due to security concerns. OpenAI has set an "extremely high bar" for safety and alignment, and its GPT-6 Astra model fell short of meeting these standards.
