Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey indicated that surging energy costs have generated relatively contained broader effects on British consumer prices thus far, though he cautioned that it remains premature to reach definitive conclusions.
Speaking in Bangkok on Friday at a meeting of the Institute of International Finance—held alongside the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank—Bailey noted that the evidence observed to date regarding secondary price pressures has appeared quite subdued.
While the central bank monitors how initial price shocks ripple through the wider economy, policymakers maintain a cautious stance as they continue to evaluate economic developments.
