Brewers Edge Rays 3-2 in Dramatic World Series Opener

The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night, surviving a tense ninth-inning comeback attempt in front of a sellout crowd at American Family Field.

The game concluded with high drama after a premature celebration by the Brewers. With two outs in the ninth, Milwaukee initially appeared to turn a game-ending double play. However, a video review revealed that shortstop Cooper Pratt’s foot was off the bag at second base, overturning the call and loading the bases for Tampa Bay. Brewers pitcher Trevor Megill quickly refocused, striking out Jonny DeLuca to seal the win.

Milwaukee established an early lead behind an RBI triple from Christian Yelich and an RBI single from William Contreras in the first inning. Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski, the NL Cy Young favorite, allowed only one run over five innings, notably throwing a 103.5 mph fastball—the fastest pitch recorded in World Series history.

The Rays, who struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the night, were held to 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Despite the late-game pressure, the Brewers held on to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The two clubs, both seeking their first championship in franchise history, will face off again in Game 2 on Saturday night.
