BEIJING — China and Pakistan are scheduled to hold their inaugural joint army training exercise in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region this month, according to an announcement by China's Defense Ministry.
Ministry Spokesman Chen Xi stated during a Beijing press conference that the upcoming exercise, designated "Karakoram 2026," will take place in Korla during mid-to-late October. The bilateral drills will concentrate on high-altitude joint counter-terrorism operations and clearance missions.
The program features collaborative training across several specialized areas, including drone operations, on-the-move target search and firing, and long-distance sniping. Troops from both nations will also participate in joint command exercises and live-troop drills.
Defense officials noted that the historic exercise is designed to deepen practical cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistani militaries while strengthening their collective readiness to address regional terrorist threats.
