Daniel Dubois Retains WBO Heavyweight Title with Second-Round Stoppage

Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois successfully defended his WBO heavyweight title on Saturday, securing a dominant second-round stoppage victory over fellow British boxer Fabio Wardley at London’s O2 Arena.

A Decisive Performance

The champion set an aggressive tone immediately, flooring Wardley with a straight right hand just 17 seconds into the opening round. While Wardley managed to beat the count and survived a barrage of punches against the ropes to reach the bell, he could not withstand the pressure in the second round. Referee Steve Gray halted the contest after Wardley was unable to fend off a sustained onslaught, marking a swift end to the highly anticipated rematch.

This victory follows their initial encounter in May, where Dubois overcame two early knockdowns to stop Wardley in the 11th round. Reflecting on his performance, Dubois stated, “I had my intentions, bad intentions, from the beginning. This time, we just had to go out there and show that we mean business.”

Future Challenges

With the win, Dubois moves to a professional record of 24 wins and three defeats, while Wardley drops to 20 wins and two losses. Following the bout, IBF champion Filip Hrgovic—who was present at ringside—publicly challenged Dubois to a unification fight. While Dubois expressed interest in a rematch with the Croatian to reclaim his former IBF title, promoter Frank Warren indicated that other potential contenders may be considered first.
