Digger Faces Projection as Major Box-Office Disaster
The upcoming release Digger is tracking toward a disappointing theatrical run, with indicators pointing to it becoming one of the most significant commercial failures of the year.
The film's trajectory toward box-office failure comes despite a massive promotional campaign comparable in scale to the moon landing. Additionally, the project benefits from the involvement of an Oscar-winning director who has claimed the best director prize twice, alongside a prominent star marking a notable return to dramatic performances.
Financial expectations for the movie have faced considerable scrutiny. While initial figures circulated regarding its financial targets, industry sources pushed back on those projections in discussions with Variety, clarifying that the actual break-even threshold required for the film sits at approximately $300 million US.
Amid its difficult theatrical outlook, corporate changes are simultaneously underway for the project. The film is scheduled to be fully acquired by Paramount.
