A prominent critic of the Rwandan government and former military official has been found dead on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. Local residents discovered the body of Robert Kabera over the weekend.

Kabera, 50, served as a former Rwandan army sergeant major and built a large following as a YouTuber and singer. He had previously fled Rwanda after facing sexual assault allegations, which he denied, and sought asylum in Uganda while citing political persecution.

According to Ugandan police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, Kabera's body was found beheaded, and his head had not yet been recovered as of Monday.

The killing has renewed safety concerns among Rwandan dissidents living abroad. Kabera's widow, Jeanne d'Arc Rwigema Uwizeye, expressed fear for her family's security following the attack.

The Rwandan government has not issued a public comment regarding the incident. Several critics of President Paul Kagame have been killed, both in Rwanda and abroad.
