Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils Announce Separation After Four Years of Marriage

Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has announced the end of her marriage to French tennis player Gaël Monfils, attributing the separation to the profound emotional toll of the ongoing war in her home country.

In a heartfelt social media statement, the 32-year-old world number six explained that the conflict had taken a severe internal toll, leading to sleepless nights, doubts, and a feeling of losing her identity. Svitolina stated that she needed to find her way back to herself independently, noting that no amount of external love could resolve internal battles. She praised Monfils, 40, for listening and respecting her needs with grace.

The couple married in 2021 and share a four-year-old daughter, Skai. Svitolina emphasized that their family remains intact despite the end of their marriage, stating that their daughter will always be their primary focus. Recently, the pair played mixed doubles together at the US Open, reaching the semi-finals.
