Kimi Antonelli made Formula 1 history at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez by securing the 2026 drivers' world championship at just 20 years old, becoming both the youngest title winner in the sport's history and the first Italian champion in 73 years.
During the Mexico City Grand Prix, Mercedes driver Antonelli crossed the finish line in third place to lock down the championship points he needed. Max Verstappen claimed victory for the race, marking his sixth win at the Mexican venue and lifting him past Lewis Hamilton into second place in the drivers' standings. Hamilton finished second after a competitive battle following an opening-lap scrap with his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.
Behind the podium finishers, Charles Leclerc successfully defended fourth position against Lando Norris in fifth. George Russell took sixth, Oscar Piastri finished seventh despite contact with Arvid Lindblad, and Franco Colapinto placed eighth. Liam Lawson drove from a pit-lane start up to ninth, while Pierre Gasly rounded out the points-scoring positions in tenth for Alpine.
