Fallen Trees Cause Rail Disruption and Power Cuts in East of England

Fallen trees have caused significant disruption to rail services in the East of England, with passengers advised to avoid travelling by train on three routes until Sunday. The damage to overhead line equipment has cancelled services between Colchester and Ipswich, Bishop's Stortford and Stansted Airport, and Manningtree to Harwich Town.

Network Rail response teams are working to repair the damage, which is expected to take all day. The disruption has also affected Stansted Express services between London Liverpool Street and the airport, London Liverpool Street and Cambridge North, and Broxbourne and Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire. Trains on the main line between Norwich and London will only run between Norwich and Ipswich.

The high winds on Friday night also caused power cuts to around 2,500 properties around Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, but most have been reconnected overnight. UK Power Networks said that a high-voltage line was damaged, leading to the power outage.

Passengers have been advised to check before they travel for the rest of the weekend. One fan of Ipswich FC was left stranded after the team's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Friday night. The station doors were locked, and people were left to fend for themselves.
