Wren's Bold Leap: The Vessel Integrated Sports Watch Review

In a surprising move, NYC-based micro-brand Wren has deviated from its signature vintage-inspired dive watch aesthetic with the launch of the Vessel, a futuristic integrated sports watch. Founded in 2024 by Craig Karger, Wren has primarily focused on producing retro-style dive watches, but the Vessel marks a bold new direction for the brand.

Designed by Max Resnick under Craig Karger's direction, the Vessel is a striking timepiece that defies conventional watch design. The watch's faceted sapphire crystal is the central feature, with each internal facet precisely aligned with its external counterpart, resulting in a complex production process and a clear geometry of the dial. The case is made of 904L stainless steel, with a wide, highly tapered bracelet attached to it. The watch measures 39mm by 39mm, with an overall thickness of 10.6mm, making it a compact yet visually striking timepiece.

The Vessel's design is a departure from Wren's usual style, but it's not without its challenges. The large push-pull crown sits well into the caseband, but makes it difficult to adjust once the watch is on the wrist. The watch's weight is evenly distributed, considering the significant amount of steel used, and the integrated 904L steel bracelet creates a single-piece object effect.

The Vessel's dial is surprisingly simple, with a monochromatic, all-steel look featuring a sunray-brushed silver dial or a textured silver-toned meteorite dial, both framed by a silver, angled inner flange with a geometric profile. The watch is powered by a tried-and-tested Swiss movement, the Sellita SW300, which is cleverly covered by a 360-degree rotor with a singular design and the same aqua tone as the seconds hand.

The Wren Vessel is available for pre-order, with delivery scheduled for Q1 2027. Each launch version, silver-brushed or meteorite, is limited to 150 pieces, priced at USD 2,900 and USD 3,400 respectively. The watch is a daring release that showcases Wren's attention to design and detail, but may also polarize opinions with its bold and futuristic design.
