India Requests UN Report on Pakistan-Controlled Kashmir Actions

During a UN General Assembly Third Committee interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, India formally asked when the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will release a report regarding Pakistan's actions in Pakistan-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. According to NDTV, the inquiry was presented by Anuj Swaroop, First Secretary of India's Permanent Mission to the UN.

Swaroop highlighted prior UN statements addressing the region, which emphasized the necessity for impartial investigations into deaths caused by security forces, fair trials, legal access for detained Joint Awami Action Committee leaders, the restoration of internet access, and meaningful political dialogue.

During the session, Swaroop criticized the OHCHR for what he described as a selective approach, affirming that New Delhi remains open to constructive cooperation free from double standards. This UN intervention follows previous tensions between India and the human rights office over recent demonstrations and mass detention concerns in Delhi.
