Judge Halts Trump’s Arch Project Following Federal Panel Approval

A federal judge has halted plans for President Donald Trump’s controversial “Triumphal Arch” in Washington, D.C., just after a federal panel voted to approve the project. The National Capital Planning Commission approved the massive monument in an 8-4 vote following a hearing that featured more than nine hours of public comment from area residents opposing the construction.

The proposed arch is slated for Memorial Circle, located between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. While the commission's Trump-appointed majority cleared the final site and building plans with an immediate construction timeline in mind, opponents quickly turned to the courts to block the development, prompting the judge's injunction.
