British adventurer Karl Bushby has successfully completed an epic 28-year global trek, arriving back at his childhood home in Hull after walking more than 31,000 miles (58,000 km) from South America.
Bushby set off from Chile in November 1998 with the goal of returning to his roots via an unbroken walking path. Over nearly three decades, his extraordinary expedition took him across four continents and included swimming the English Channel. His journey concluded on Sunday after he crossed the Humber Bridge to a large gathering of family, friends, and supporters, alongside filmmaker Werner Herzog, who plans to document the adventure.
Throughout the largely self-funded undertaking, Bushby relied on the kindness of strangers and intermittent sponsorship, encountering widespread public support across the globe. Upon reaching his final destination, he received a congratulatory letter praising his determination and self-belief.
