Storm Boelo Brings Destruction and Disruption to the UK
A 60-year-old man has tragically lost his life after being struck by a falling tree in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, as Storm Boelo continues to wreak havoc across the UK. The incident occurred at 10:30 near Castle Douglas, with police confirming that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
The storm, which has brought strong winds and heavy rain, has caused widespread disruption, with over 80,000 customers across Great Britain left without power. The Met Office has issued amber warnings for wind across large parts of Scotland, northern England, and parts of Northern Ireland, with gusts of up to 85mph recorded overnight.
Travel has also been severely impacted, with numerous flights cancelled, including over 20 from Leeds Bradford, and ferry services suspended. Railways have also been affected, with people advised not to travel north of Preston on the West Coast Main Line and north of Edinburgh on the East Coast.
The storm has also caused significant flooding, with water flowing through the town centre in Largs, Ayrshire, and a phone shop in Dumbarton flooded overnight. A boat was also washed onto the street in Gourock, and waves are breaking at heights of up to 20ft against the harbour wall at Findochty in Moray.
