Meta Plans Massive Equity Raise to Fund AI Expansion Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced plans to raise up to $95 billion in equity to fund its costly expansion into artificial intelligence (AI). The company aims to invest in data centers, cloud computing power, and other infrastructure to stay competitive with rival AI heavyweights OpenAI and Anthropic. The equity raise will be achieved through a combination of public offerings and a separate at-the-market share sale program. Meta will launch a public offering of approximately $35 billion in common stock and convertible preferred stock. Additionally, the company plans to launch a separate at-the-market share sale program of up to $60 billion after its new non-voting Class C shares begin trading in the first quarter of 2027. Meta has been increasing its spending on data centers, computing capacity, and AI products to stay ahead in the competitive AI landscape. The company reported a cash burn of $2.12 billion in the third quarter, marking its first negative free cash flow in over ten years. Despite this, Meta's third-quarter revenue of $64.60 billion exceeded Wall Street estimates, and the company projects fourth-quarter revenue between $73 billion and $76 billion. Meta's aggressive AI expansion plans have been met with interest from its main chip suppliers, Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom, which have expressed interest in purchasing up to $5 billion in aggregate of the company's shares. The capital raised will support Meta's continued momentum across its core business and emerging AI opportunities, including its family of apps, AI agent Muse, and infrastructure build-out.
